In the long term, a downturn in the U.S. economy is inevitable, said the head of the financial conglomerate Societe Generale on economic policy Koku Agbo-Blois, whose words are quoted by Bloomberg.

The good news, according to the expert, is that when it happens, the leadership of the Federal Reserve System (Fed), which performs the functions of the central bank of the country, may have more freedom of action to reduce the key rate.

Recall that since July, the Fed has kept the benchmark rate at its maximum level of 5.25-5.5 per cent per annum. In the message of the regulator then noted that it considers it appropriate to further increase the rate to achieve maximum employment in the economy and the target inflation rate of 2% in the long term.
